End-of-Day Recap

  • A spring survey of U.S. consumers shows they’re concerned about the financial hit of buying a car today, but the findings also reveal ample opportunity to sell protection products. Finance-and-insurance product provider Protective Asset Protection polled more than 3,000 drivers in April on their views about financial conditions and vehicle protection plans. The results showed 69% were concerned about finances as they bought their vehicles. The silver lining in the stark finding came when consumers shared their likelihood of paying for protection products: 29% said today’s economic conditions make them more likely to do so.

  • The American economy is short roughly 140,000 skilled technicians a year, and the gap is widening. That is the finding of a new analysis from TechForce Foundation, a not-for-profit that for nine years has tracked supply and demand in the U.S. technician workforce using federal data. The latest edition expands the analysis from four sectors to 10 and covers the workers who keep American cars, trucks, planes, factories, hospitals and data centers running. Across those 10 sectors, employers will need 241,842 new technicians a year through 2029, the report finds, against 101,743 students who graduated from technical schools and community colleges last year.

  • Gen Z may be early in their ownership journey, but the service experiences they have today are already shaping where they’ll return tomorrow—both for service and their next vehicle. As this generation moves more fully into ownership, expectations set outside the automotive industry are colliding with long-standing dealership processes. The result is a defining moment for dealers: one that can either erode trust or build loyalty that lasts for decades.

  • The Petersen Automotive Museum has debuted a major new exhibition celebrating a century of Mercedes-Benz innovation. World-Class: 100 Years of Mercedes-Benz opened on May 23, and will remain on view through April 25, 2027, bringing together dozens of vehicles that helped shape the history of the automobile. The exhibition, which features more than 40 vehicles, looks back to the company’s earliest beginnings in the late 19th century, when automotive pioneers Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler developed some of the world’s first motor vehicles.

  • As part of its 3rd annual Military Appreciation Month, members of the Titus-Will Automotive Group of Wash. and KOMO 4-Seattle teams joined forces to serve those who serve. The USO Northwest at the Camp Lewis Center hosted a free lunch for local military service members and their families to 'Thank You for Your Service.' Volunteers served a homemade meal and expressed gratitude for serving our country. Titus-Will Automotive Group also brought a $5,000 donation to support the nonprofit USO Northwest with its mission.
